The arms are those of Bathurst quartering Villiers with Apsley in pretence, for Allen Bathurst, 1st Baron Bathurst (1684-1775) and his wife Catherine (d.1768), daughter and eventual heiress of Sir Peter Apsley, whom he married in 1704. He was later created 1st Earl Bathurst in 1772.
