A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE COMMODE
ATTRIBUTED TO WRIGHT AND ELWICK, CIRCA 1760-65
The shaped rectangular 'arc-en-arbalette' top with leaf-carved edge above three part-mahogany-lined drawers, the top drawer with two divisions and originally with a long slide and a smaller slide or mirror, with gadrooned and foliate-carved lower edge, on scrolled legs carved with foliage, flowerhead-filled concave-corner side panels, the handles original, the underside of the front-rail with nails possibly for packing, with circular blue-bordered paper label inscribed 'I' on the interior of the top drawer, and with an applied rectangular label printed 'LEEDS CITY ART GALLERY/ AND/ TEMPLE NEWSOME HOUSE/ EXHIBITION' to the reverse
