A GERMAN SILVER-GILT CUP AND COVER
MAKER'S MARK F, UNRECORDED, AUGSBURG, 1580-1586
The cylindrical cup chased and engraved with strapwork, flowering urns, fruit, and masks against a stippled ground, the conforming domed cover with spool shaped finial surmounted by a fully modeled figure of a knight, his shield inset with a plaque engraved with two coats-of-arms suspended from a ribbon, the body on a knopped stem and domed foot similarly chased and engraved with fruit and flowers amongst strapwork, and with fluted rim, marked on foot rim and with later French tax mark
