A LARGE AND VERY FINE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD OF THE SIGN WITH A MASSIVE SILVER-GILT OKLAD Russian, mid 19th century (icon), Russian, Moscow, Alexander Afanasiev, 1860 (oklad) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The oklad richly chased and repoussé with scrolling vines and strapwork and set with haloes of multicoloured faceted pastes. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'AA'. On the borders twelve selected patron saints, the dog-headed St. Christopher among them. Minimally restored. On the reverse later Cyrillic dedication inscription, dated '1959'. 40.2 x 34 cm.

(Ikone), Russland, Moskau, Alexander Afanasiew, 1860 (Oklad) Holztafel mit zwei Stirnseiten-Sponki. Kowtscheg, Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Goldgrund. Oklad aus massivem Silber. Steinbesatz. 40,2 x 34 cm. Punziert mit Stadtmarke, Beschaumeisterzeichen, Feingehalt '84' und Meistermarke 'AA'. Auf dem Rand reihen sich zwölf Heilige, darunter der heilige Christophorus Kynokephalos. In sehr feiner, detailreicher Malerei ausgeführte Ikone von höchster Qualität. Verso spätere Widmungsinschrift, datiert 1959. Min. rest.
