Estimate value
£ 4 000 – 6 000
Araucarioxylon arizonicum from the Triassic (circa 225 million years ago) Chinle Formation, Apache County, Arizona, extraordinary colours of red, orange, yellow and blue delineate the original growth ring structure shown in this ancient conifer’s cross section. Enlivened around the edges by areas of earth tones of cream and blue, the outer rim retains highly-textured surface. One surface has been polished to a mirror-like smoothness highlighting the superb preservation, the reverse reinforced.
