A LARGE SIGNED AND DATED MELKITE ICON SHOWING THE HOLY FAMILY Lebanon, Michail al-Qudsi, 1855 Tempera on wood panel. Finely executed on a gold ground. A metal halo applied. On the lower border Arabic inscription: 'This Holy icon was offered to the church of our Lady of Delivrence by Obeid the son of Youssed Elbreidy to the Archbishop of Zahle in 1855. The painting of this icon was done by Michail Mehanna Elkodsy the son of Jacop Elkodsy.'. Vertical crack restored, minor losses. Applizierter Metallnimbus. 68 x 46,7 cm. Am unteren Rand arabische Widmungsinschrift mit Signatur und Datierung. Die Inschrift am unteren Rand lautet: 'Diese heilige Ikone wurde 1855 von Obeid, dem Sohn von Youssed Elbreidy, dem Erzbischof von Zahle für die Kirche unserer Lieben Frau geschenkt. Das Gemälde dieser Ikone wurde von Michail Mehanna Elkodsy, dem Sohn von Jacop Elkodsy, angefertigt'. Rückseitiges Etikett: Khalil John Sarkis Museum, Beirut (1969). Vertikaler Riss restauriert, min. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
