3 volumes, 4to (290 x 233mm.), list of subscribers, 306 hand-coloured engraved plates, contemporary mottled calf richly gilt, spines with raised bands in seven compartments, red morocco labels in second and third compartments, sprinkled edges, marbled endpapers, upper joints becoming weak

The first British bird book to be illustrated entirely with hand-coloured plates. The first two volumes were concerned mainly with British birds, while the third volume included more foreign species.
