A PAIR OF GERMAN SILVER-GILT AND PAINTED ENAMEL LIQUOR BEAKERS
MARK OF ELIAS ADAM, ONE OF THE ENAMELS SIGNED IIP FOR JOHANN JAKOB PRIESTER, AUGSBURG, CIRCA 1711-1715
Of tapered cylindrical form, with fluted base rims, the body overlaid with a copper sleeve, painted in polychrome enamel with scenes depicting the months and including signs of the Zodiac, one beaker depicting January and February painted with an elderly man warming his hands over a brazier before a snowy landscape with horse-drawn sleigh with Aquarius and Pisces above, the other beaker depicting November and December, painted with a hunter returning with game and a hog being butchered with Sagittarius and Capricorn above, marked on undersides with maker's mark and town mark, the latter beaker signed on table I.I.P for the enameller
