A PAIR OF REGENCY SILVER SAUCE TUREENS AND COVERS

MARK OF BENJAMIN SMITH II AND JAMES SMITH III, LONDON, 1811

Each circular with plain bombe body on four paw and palmette feet, the reeded handles with acanthus leaf terminals, the rim applied with an egg-and-dart border, the slightly domed cover with a double-reeded acanthus-capped loop handle, engraved with a coat-of-arms on each side of the body and a crest twice on cover, marked under bases, on covers and finials

58 oz. 5 dwt. (1,812 gr.)

The arms are those of Baker with Davies in pretence for Colonel William Massy Baker (1759-1829), of Fort William. Glanmire, co. Cork and his wife Mary Towgood Davies (1780-1850), only child of the Rev. Richard DAvies, of Dawstown, co. Cork, whom he married in 1807.
