Of rectangular form, modelled as a brick tea packet, the hinged cover applied with the diamond-set crowned cypher of Tsesarevich Nicholas, within a ribbon-tied laurel wreath, the cypher flanked by two black enamel Chinese inscriptions 'Tailwind, making good progress / prosperous future for the harbour', the reverse with enamelled Russian inscription '[To] Vasilii Mikhailovich Kuznetsov', the interior with an oval bezel and enamelled Russian inscription 'In Memory / of Visiting Hankou / 7-9 April / 1891', with thumbpiece and suspension loop, marked inside base and on loop
