The crest is possibly that of Hampden, for Robert Hampden (formerly Trevor), 4th Baron Trevor and 1st Viscount Hampden (1705-1783). He inherited the Great Hampden estate on the death of John Hampden and he took the name and arms of Hampden by Royal Licence in 1754. He served as Postmaster General from 1759 to 1765. He was created a viscount in 1776.
