Each shaped oblong, with gadrooned border and shell handles, the cover with pomegranate finial, the hot-water stand on four paw feet with reeded border and side handles, engraved on dishes and covers with a coat-of-arms, the dishes marked underneath and with scratch weight No 5 22:7 / No 6 22:9 / No 7 23:9 and No 8 23;17; the covers marked on side, on finials and on nuts, and stamped 1 to 4 on sides and 5 to 8 on domed part, three finials also stamped 5, 7 and 8

The arms on the dishes are for James Lenox Dutton (c.1713-1776) of Sherborne Park, Gloucestershire, and his second wife Jane (c.1712-1776), daughter of Christopher Bond (1682-1739), whom he married in 1743.

The arms on the covers are those of Dutton with Legge in pretence, for John Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne (1779-1862) of Sherborne Park, Gloucestershire, and his wife the Hon. Mary Bilson-Legge (1788-1864), only child and heiress of Henry Bilson-Legge, 2nd Baron Stawell of Somerton, whom he married in 1803.
