CIRCA 1770

Each with a shaped oval back centered by a flower-filled basket and carved with ribbon-twisted vinery, the serpentine-fronted seat raised on cabriole legs, with printed and inscribed Ann and Gordon Getty Collection inventory label, decoration refreshed

36 ½ in. (92.7 cm.) high, 24 ½ in. (62.2 cm.) wide, 21 in. deep (53.3 cm.)





Provenance

Supplied to Esprit-Benoit Nicolis, Conte di Robilant (probably 1724-1801), Turin.

By descent to Edmondo Nicolis, Conte di Robilant e Cereaglio (1871-1941) and removed to Venice circa 1896.

A set of twelve chairs and a settee were acquired from Andrea, Conte di Robilant by Julius Loewy, Venice, and sold to Walter T. Rosen in the 1930s.

Property of the Rosen Foundation, Caramoor, Katonah, New York; Christie's, New York, 22 November 1980, lot 251 (six armchairs).

Acquired from Partridge, London by Ann and Gordon Getty in 1997.
