A fine signed portrait of the incredibly talented American contralto who is best known today for her role in the Civil Rights Movement. In 1939, the Daughters of the American Revolution refused to allow Anderson to appear before an integrated audience at Constitution Hall in Washington. Upon learning of the snub, Elanor Roosevelt, a longtime member of the D.A.R., resigned from the organization, and arranged for Anderson to appear on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on 9 April 1939 where she before an integrated crowed of some 75,000 and to millions more over the radio.
