Lot 4757 | A Type 98 Army Officer’s Shin-Gunto
The blade signed Tsuda Echizen (no) Kami Sukehiro, dated 8th month of Kanbun 12 or 1672, but it was made in the 1930’s and appears to be oil tempered. There is a dragon carved on one side of the blade and bonji and two thin grooves on the other. The handle has been replaced, there are two pegs close to each other and the handle rattles when held. There are spacers missing. The scabbard has numbers on the drag, they are probably patent numbers, this type of scabbard is rare. Overall, an interesting sword with dragon carving, wavy temper, and good blue and brown rank tassel. Cutting edge ca. 26 ¼”, overall length ca. 38 7/8”.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
