Lot 6016 | A V-1 Rocket Propoganda Leaflet
A V-1 Rocket Propoganda Leaflet
Double-sided paper leaflet, printed in English and titled "The Other Side", dated 1944 and containing German propaganda stories for English citizens to read. These leaflets were to be ejected from a V-1 rocket during flight over the English countryside.
Acquired in 1990 from the family of U.S. Army Brigadier General Clare Hibbs Armstrong, commander of Antwerp X Operation, a mission to shoot down V-1 rockets aimed at the Port of Antwerp in late 1944. Armstrong and his troops were deployed in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and destroyed 97 % of all V-1 flying bombs aimed at the docking facilities in Antwerp. He was decorated by General George Patton the day before Patton had his fatal accident (and was in the last known photo of Patton).
Leaflet is believed to have been taken from a downed rocket, small tears to paper at top resulting from removal.
