NICHOLAS OF MYRA WITH A SILVER-GILT RIZA Russian, Palekh, circa 1830 (icon), Russian, Moscow, Vasiliy Ivanovitch Popov, 1832 (riza) (Riza) Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. The saint wears an himation decorated with crosses within roundels and a green stole. His face is painted in detail with gold highlights. He is flanked by Christ and his mother. Overlaid with a finely chased silver-gilt riza. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'VP' in Cyrillic. Minor areas of retouching. 45 x 37 cm.
