A VERY RARE PANAGIA OF HIGH MUSEUM QUALITY SHOWING THE HOLY TRINITY, THE MOTHER OF GOD ZNAMENIE AND SAINTS
Woodcarving 15th/16th c., silver niello work: 17th c.
Diameter: 7cm

The setting of the Panagia is silver. The outside is decorated with niello work, the inside is engraved with hymns or troparia to the Mother of God and the Holy Trinity. On the front is a carved wooden medallion depicting St. Nicholas and St. Paraskeva embedded, on the back a counterpart with St. Alexy, St. Metroplitan Peter and St. Sergius of Radonezh. Inside are carved wooden medallions of St. Trinity (Old Testament Type) and the Mother of God Znamenie.
