Lot 47 | A VICTORIAN GOLD BOWL

In the early Huguenot style, circular, on spreading reeded foot, the plain body applied with alternating lambrequin strapwork and moulded ribs, engraved with initials W.E.G and I.C.G. above dates 1839 and 1889, in original green velvet fitted case stamped with initials W.E.G & C.G. 1839-1889, marked underneath
31/2 in. (8.9 cm.) diameter
5 oz. 9 dwt. (171 gr.)
The initials are those of William Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898) and his wife Catherine (1812-1900), daughter of Sir Stephen Richard Glynne, 8th Bt. of Hawarden Castle. The dates commemorate their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
