Lot 614 | AELTESTE VOLKSTEDTER PORZELLANMANUFAKTUR 'Friedrich II. mit seinen Windspielen', 20. Jh.
OLDEST VOLKSTEDT PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY 'Frederick II with his wind chimes', 20th century, white porcelain, glazed, the "Alte Fritz" on an oval base in contrapposto on a column support with walking stick and his two wind chimes, base with blue company stamp of the manufactory and pressed monogram "FR" (Friedrich Rex) with crown, signs of age, glaze defects, H 45.
After a bronze statue by Johann Gottfried Schadow (1764-1850), the 91 cm high statue depicts the aged, private Frederick walking his dogs and was created posthumously in 1822. This idea of the figure of "Old Fritz" shaped subsequent generations. The original is now in the Bode Museum in Berlin.
