Bronze, dunkelbraun patiniert. Künstler-Bez.; Posthumer, zeitgenössischer Guss, Anfang 21. Jh.; Allegorie der Musik in Gestalt eines jugendlichen Mädchens, das in graziös balancierender Pose auf einem Sockel sitzt, das rechte Bein am Boden aufstützend. In der Linken hält dieses eine Lyra, während der rechte Arm diagonal vorgestreckt ist, den Oberkörper mit dem Kopf vorbeugend, um dem Klang der Melodie zu lauschen. Da ihr Körper nur teilw. leicht bekleidet ist, erhielt die Bronzeplastik auch eine erotische Note. Carrier-Belleuse war einer der bedeutendsten, schaffensreichsten und thematisch vielseitigsten Bildhauer der Epoche Kaiser Napoleon III. und Belle Epoque. Er studierte an der École des Beaux-Arts in Paris und debütierte schon 1851 im Salon. Viele Werke wurden von Napoleon III. angekauft, den er ebenso porträtierte wie andere Persönlichkeiten seiner Zeit. In seinem Atelier arbeitete 1864-1870 der befreundete Auguste Rodin als Assistent, mit dem er seit 1875 auch als Leiter der Manufaktur Sèvres kooperierte. H. 118 cm
