Das Gemälde spiegelt sowohl Licht- und Farbphänomene als auch die Urgewalt des Meeres wider, nach dem berühmten 1850 entstandenen, monumentalen Werk von Iwan Konstantinowitsch Aiwasowski (1817 - 1900) im Staatl. Russischen Museum in St. Petersburg. Der Titel "Die neunte Woge" bezieht sich auf den Seemannsglauben, dass sich die "neunte Woge" als Kaventsmann bzw. Riesenwelle zu einer besonders hohen, bedrohlichen Wassermasse auftürme. Dementsprechend wird diese eindringlich geschildert: Überlebende eines Schiffbruchs haben sich inmitten großer Wellen auf das Wrackteil eines Masts gerettet, doch rollt unaufhaltsam das Unheil in Gestalt der "neunten Woge" heran. Der Maler und Illustrator Afanasyev studierte seit 1872 an der Akademie und beteiligte sich später an den Ausstellungen der Künstlergruppe der "Peredvizhniki". Dort zeigte er auch seine Gemälde "Friedhof" (1889) und "Vor dem Fest" (1890), die von P. M. Tretjakow für seine Galerie erworben wurden. Ö/Lwd.; R. u. monogr. u. dat. 1898. 22 cm x 31 cm. Rahmen.

After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
