First edition in 8vo of this work by the Swiss mountaineer and scientist Saussure who published for the first time the first volume of his work in 1779 and the second in 1786 in 4to format; in 1796 two other volumes were then published. The work contains, in addition to an in-depth study of the mountain range of the Alps, its structure, formation and surroundings, also a discourse on electricity and the measurement of heights.

8 volumes, 8vo (199 x 124mm). 2 large folding maps, 21 engraved plates on 20 folding sheets by Bourrit after Geissler, Tpfer and Wexelberg, and 6 folding tables (without half-titles and final blank 2B6 in vol. 2, occasional slight tears without losses, some light spotting, browning and staining).
