Oblong with curved angles and on four bracket feet, the side inset with blue plexiglass panels decorated with twelve medallions depicting battle scenes each engraved with the name beneath, the cover centred with the scene of Waterloo within silver-gilt laurel wreath, flanked by enamelled portrait miniatures of the Duke of Wellington and Napoloen, the inside divided in three compartments lined with cedar and set with a reproduction picture medal of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington originally engraved by Edward Orme (1775-1848), marked on back panel, in original fitted blue case
17 in. (43 cm.) long
The battles featured on the sides are those of Vimiero (1808), The Douro (1809), Talavera (1809), Busaco (1810), Albuera (1811) Cuidad Rodrico (1812), Badajoz (1812), Salamanca (1812), Vittorla (1813), Pampeluna (1813), St Sebastian (1813) and Toulouse (1814); all are British victories over the French Napoleonic armies won by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.
