AN INCISED SLIP-DECORATED RUYI-SHAPED PILLOW

NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY, 11TH-EARLY 12TH CENTURY

The top is incised thorugh the white slip to a dark grey slip ground with a leafy peony stem reserved on a ring-punch ground within a double-line border. The pillow is covered with a faintly crackled colorless glaze that stops at the base to reveal the buff-colored stoneware body.
