The rectangular frame surmounted by a displayed eagle and tablet carved with a torch, bow and quiver, flanked by flaming urns above a verre eglomisé panel depicting Charlotte at Werter's tomb, the panel signed and dated 'J. Phillips 1798', the original bevelled plate flanked by fluted columns with foliate capitals
