A FELINE -SHAPED GOLD PENDANT - Costa Rica, Pre-Columbian style, probably 20th c. - Most probably this pendant represents a jaguar, an animal with which a warrior would have wanted to be associated. The animal's mouth is open to display its dangerous teeth, and the end of its characteristic tail is curled upwards. The front feet have loops for suspension. Lost-wax cast, in Pre-Columbian style. Gold. 41 g. - From the Ludwig Bretschneider Collection (1909-1987), assembled until the 1950s and 60s - Good condition

Vermutlich handelt es sich bei der Darstellung um einen Jaguar, ein Tier, mit dem ein Krieger in Verbindung gebracht werden wollte. Das Maul der Raubkatze ist geöffnet und entblößt seine gefährlichen Zähne, das Ende seines charakteristischen Schwanzes ist nach oben gerollt. Die vorderen Füße mit Schlaufen, die zur Aufhängung dienen. Guss in der verlorenen Form. 41 gr.
