Meisterhaft aus einem zweilagigen Onyx geschnittene Büste eines Zeus-Jupiters mit Lorbeerkranz. Die durch die Lebendigkeit von Haar- und Barttracht und die ausgesprochen hohe Detailfreude charakterisierte Büste ganz in weiß, während der Hintergrund aus einer hellen, transluzenten Kristallschicht mit leicht beiger Tönung besteht. Die ausgesprochen hohe Qualität macht die Unterscheidung solcher Stücke zu antiken Originalen nicht immer leicht. Vergleichbare Zeusdarstellungen stammen von Münzen des Antiochos IV. Epiphanes. Das weich gezeichnete Gesicht, die Lippenstellung, die Behandlung der Bart- und Haarlocken sowie die betonten Augen mit ihren stark gebohrten Äpfeln und den überaus dicken Lidern erinnern hingegen an Merkmale antoninischer Kaiserporträts der römischen Kaiserzeit oder sentimental wirkende Götterbildnisse dieser Epoche. Technische Merkmale lassen das Stück mit italienischen Werkstätten des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts in Verbindung bringen. Es handelt sich um ein Meisterwerk der Steinglyptik des frühen 19. Jhdts., das eklektisch Merkmale antiker Spitzenerzeugnisse vereint und in dieser perfektionistischen Neuschöpfung die zeittypische Begeisterung für das Erbe der klassischen Antike unter Ausschöpfung der zur Verfügung stehenden technischen und künstlerischen Mittel zum Ausdruck bringt. Die Umrandung der Hintergrundplatte mit minimalen randlichen Bestoßungen, sonst intakt. Maße 3,8 x 2,9 cm, Dicke max. 1,1 cm.
