L. u. signiert. Rücks. auf dem Keilrahmen bezeichnet "Napoli - Chiatamone". Öl auf Lwd. 31,9 x 47,3 cm. Doubliert. Rest. Min. besch. Rahmen min. besch. (42,5 x 58,5 cm). Nach einem Studienaufenthalt in Paris und ersten Italienreisen, geht Anton Sminck Pitloo 1815 nach Neapel, wo er eine private Malschule eröffnet und ab 1824 zum Professur für Landschaftsmalerei am dortigen Reale Istituto di Belle Arti berufen wird, u. a. studierte Carl Wilhelm Götzloff bei ihm. In den 1820er Jahren bildet sich um Pitloo und seine Schüler die sogenannte "Scuola di Posilippo", die die Landschaftsmalerei um die Betonung der Lichteffekte revolutioniert. Um die Natur und das jeweilige Tageslicht optimal einzufangen, wird unter freiem Himmel gemalt. Pitloo gilt als einer der Protagonisten der Pleinair-Malerei.
