Bronze, braun patiniert, links am Hals das Künstlermonogramm "A.B.". Überlebensgroßer vollplastischer Portraitkopf, am Kragen der Uniform der Orden Pour le Mérite. Auf 20 cm hohem würfelförmigen Sockel aus poliertem schwarzen Stein. Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren. Gesamthöhe 69 cm.
Dazu ausführliche Provenienzpapiere, die die Aufstellung der Bronze im Reichsluftfahrtministerium 1936 und die Urheberschaft Arno Brekers belegen.
Hermann von der Lieth-Thomsen (1867 - 1942) war ein deutscher General der Flieger, der als Mitbegründer der deutschen Luftstreitkräfte gilt. Am 20.3.1911 zum Major befördert, wirkte er 1913 bei der Inspektion des Militär-Luft- und Kraftfahrwesens. Bei Beginn des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde er als Generalstabsoffizier des Luftschiffes Z V an der Ostfront eingesetzt. Ab 27.3.1915 fungierte er als Chef des Feldflugwesens beim Großen Hauptquartier (Oberste Heeresleitung). Am 10.8.1916 ließ er die ersten Jagdstaffeln nach Oswald Boelckes Vorschlägen aufstellen. Thomsen wurde am 8.4.1917 mit dem Orden Pour le Mérite ausgezeichnet.

Bronze with brown patina, on the left of the neck artist’s monogram "A.B.". Larger-than-life three-dimensional portrait head, the collar of the uniform with Pour le Mérite order. On a cubical base of polished black stone of 20 cm height. Traces of use and age. Overall height 69 cm.
Comes with extensive provenance documents evidencing the erection of the bronze sculpture in the Reich Ministry of Aviation in 1936 and the authorship of Arno Breker.
Hermann von der Lieth-Thomsen (1867 - 1942) was a German General der Flieger (air force general) who is regarded as co-founder of the German air force. He was promoted to major on 20 March 1911 and participated in the monitoring of military aviation and motor transport in 1913. At the onset of World War I, he was deployed at the Eastern Front as general staff officer of the airship Z V. As of 27 March 1915, he served as chief of field aviation at the main headquarters (supreme army command). On 10 August 1916, he formed the first Jagdstaffeln (fighter squadrons) based on the suggestions of Oswald Boelcke. Thomsen was awarded the Pour le Mérite order on 8 April 1917.
