ASTRONOMICAL MAPS AND ATLASES – Five items of astronomical charts and engravings, comprising one constellation map, a composite astronomical atlas, and two editions of a 19th-century American star atlas, with the accompanying text volume, 17th-19th century.

1. [BAYER, Johann.] Single engraving from Uranometria, depicting the constellation of Ophiuchus and Serpentarius. 285 x 385mm engraving, later hand-coloring, the stars gilt.
2. Astronomy (binding title). Collection of 25 astronomical plates, late 18th to early 19th century. Plates engraved mostly by Lizars, also Kirkwood, Moffat, and Ixars, et al. The first 17 are from an unknown later edition of James Ferguson’s Astronomy Explained upon Sir Isaac Newton’s Principles (first published London, 1756). Oblong folio (various size prints, largest is 263 x 375mm sheet). Modern gray cloth.
3. BURRITT, Elijah. Atlas, Designed to Illustrate the Geography of the Heavens. Hartford: F.J. Huntington, 1833. (wrapper title). With 7 hand-colored engraved maps, one of which is double-page. Stated second edition. With: Another edition by the same publisher, undated, but stated "New Edition" and with 8 maps. Folio. Both well worn and rebound in modern half buckram. And: The Geography of the Heavens. Hartford: F.J. Huntington, 1836. Stated third edition. 12mo. Original sheep-backed printed boards.
