Dial: White enamel set in the middle of the automaton scene of a finely chased varicolored gold coastal landscape, to the left an automaton waterfall and water wheel, a rocking ship on the sea beyond, to the right a windmill with turning sails, finely painted enamel on gold landscape of the sky and ocean, apertures for winding the watch, automaton and music, setting and regulating arm in an aperture above
Case: All panels decorated with chased gold scrolling foliage and flowers, on a black champlevé enamel ground, hinged lid with aperture to view the watch dial, the interior engraved twice with the Royal cipher ‘GR’ beneath a crown, the hinged base opening to reveal a shallow compartment, the interior engraved 'FROM JOSEPHINE LOUISE, AND DION BOUCICAULT TO CLARK BELL, IN REMEMBRANCE OF THEIR MARRIAGE IN MARCH 1889'. Further engraved below 'THIS BOX A GIFT FROM KING GEORGE THE FOURTH TO THE KING OF OUDE WAS FOUND IN THE PALACE OF LUCKNOW WHEN THAT CITY WAS CAPTURED BY THE BRITISH FORCES IN 1858', punched with indistinct maker’s marks, 83 mm. wide, 44.5 mm. deep, 24.5 mm high
