Der historische Buddha sitzt auf einem altarähnlichen Thron in seiner traditionellen Darstellungsweise. Auf der Bildfläche verteilt sind Szenen aus dem Leben Guru Padmasambhavas zu erkennen. Unterhalb von Buddhas Altarthron ist eine vereinfachte Darstellung des Paradieses von Padmasambhava - Zamdokpalri - zu sehen. Zur Rechten von Buddha erscheint der zornvolle Vajrapani als Bodhisattva der Kraft, zur Linken die zornvolle Emanation Padmasambhavas als Dorje Drolo, mit Vajra und Phurbu in seinen Händen haltend, und auf einer Tigerin stehend. In der Mitte oben erscheint eine weitere Emanation Padmasambhavas, als Nyima Öser, der den Lauf der Sonne aufzuhalten vermochte. Weitere Szenen sind dargestellt bei denen Padmasambhava an verschiedenen Orten Belehrungen erteilt. Vermutlich stammt dieses Thangka aus einer Serie von mehreren Bildern die die Ereignisse und Aktivitäten des Guru in erzählender Weise abbildeten. Tempera und Gold auf Baumwollgewebe, auf festem Grund, zusammen mit Satin-Einfassung aufgezogen.
