Exceptional Shango staff, Osé Ṣàngó, Yoruba, Ekiti, Efon-Alaaye, Nigeria, ritual dance staff of the thunder god Shango, who represents lightning, thunder, power and divine authority in the Yoruba pantheon, wood with beautiful patina, attributed to the workshop of the Adeshina family, circa 1900, H. 34.5 cm, provenance: collected in 1958 by Lore Kegel
(The staff features a staggered multi-head composition with strict axial symmetry and belongs to a rare form variant developed exclusively in Efon-Alaaye, which explains the extremely small number of known examples. The completely preserved, crusty sacrificial and functional patina as well as clear abrasions testify to long ritual use. The zigzag-decorated elements arranged between the handle and the double axe have been interpreted as cultic panels, but can more convincingly be read as representations of the so-called thundercelts - stone thunderbolts that Shango is believed to hurl from the sky. Less than ten rods of this type are known to exist; the present example is one of the three highest-quality representatives of this unique group of works - and is now being presented to the public for the first time ever.)

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
