Boone certifies the ownership of a horse used in an expedition led by General George Rogers Clark against the Shawnee in Ohio in November 1782—one of the last major campaigns of the American War of Independence. The "Mare," was "Property of Samuel Kelly," had been "in Public Service or the Use of my Company of Fayette Militia on the Late Expedition against the Shawanese Commanded by B. Genl. The expedition, led by George Rogers Clark was the last major campaign of the War of Independence and resulted in the destruction several Shawnee towns in the Ohio Country. The late season campaign followed the ill-fated Crawford Expedition over that summer against the Native American towns on the Sandusky River, ending in his capture and execution.
