BAERWIND, Rudi(1910 Mannheim - 1982 ebd.) Zwei abstrakte Kompositionen Je Tempera oder Acryl/Malkarton. Je rechts unten signiert. Je 39,5 x 27,5 cm. Gerahmt & hinter Glas: Je 59,5 x 47,5 cm. Deutscher Maler und Grafiker. Er studierte an den Kunstakademien in München, Berlin und Paris und lebte vorwiegend in seiner Geburtsstadt als auch in der französischen Hauptstadt. In den 1950er und 1960er Jahren genoss er als Künstler internationales Ansehen und organisierte 1959 die erste deutsch-französische Kunstausstellung in München und Paris. In Mannheim initiierte er das "Symposium der Künste". Sein Stil war anfangs vom deutschen Expressionismus geprägt, wandelte sich aber nach einer surrealistischen Phase hin zum Informel und schließlich zum Internationalen Stil. Der sich zu seiner Homosexualität bekennende Baerwind saß in den 1950er Jahren mehrere Monate im Mannheimer Landesgefängnis ein. Ihm wurden sexuelle Handlungen mit Gleichgeschlechtlichen vorgeworfen, was damals noch strafbar war. Anlässlich seines 70. Geburtstages veranstaltete die Kunsthalle Mannheim 1980 eine große Retrospektive. Zudem wurde er Ehrenmitglied der Akademien Rom und London und erhielt das Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande.
