Lot 51 | Bandhelm mit Nasal, wikingerzeitlich, 10. Jhdt.
Kalotte aus vier Segmenten, die durch zwei kreuzförmig angeordnete Eisenbänder und Nietreihen an deren Rändern zusammengehalten sind. Der Rand der so konstruierten Kalotte mit einem Eisenband zusammengefasst, das am oberen Rand mit der Kalotte vernietet ist. Auf der Rückseite ist eine Überlappung dieses Bandes mit drei Nieten verschlossen. Vorne ein breites Nasal mit fünf Nieten im bogenförmigen Oberteil auf dem Randband vernietet. Seitlich des Nasals am unteren Helmrand ringsherum Löcher zur Befestigung einer Ringbrünne. Länge 23 cm, Breite 19,5 cm, Höhe ohne Nasal ca. 14 cm, mit Nasal ca. 22 cm. Gut erhaltene, fachmännisch restaurierte Eisensubstanz. Typische Helmform für skandinavische Waräger und ostslawische Krieger in Handelszentren des frühmittelalterlichen Osteuropa.
Provenienz: Spanische Privatsammlung, erworben im niederländischen Kunsthandel.
A Viking period band helmet with nasal, 10th century
Calotte consisting of four segments held together by two iron bands arranged in a cross shape and rows of rivets at their edges. The edge of the calotte constructed in this way is joined by an iron band riveted to the calotte at the upper edge. On the back, an overlap of this band is closed with three rivets. In front a broad nasal with five rivets riveted to the rim band in the arched upper part. To the side of the nasal on the lower rim of the helmet, holes all around for attaching mail. Length 23 cm, width 19.5 cm, height without nasal approx. 14 cm, with nasal approx. 22 cm. Well preserved, professionally restored iron. Typical helmet shape of Scandinavian Varangians and East Slavic warriors in trade centres of early medieval Eastern Europe.
Provenance: Spanish private collection, acquired in the Dutch art trade.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
