A French baroque body of Christ in a Louis XV frame, 18th century

Fully sculptured ivory. The three-nail type body exquisitely carved after the Giambologna model. The extremities, the loincloth with cord and the head with its meticulously worked hair and beard clearly show a master craftsman's touch from the mid-18th century. Mounted on an ebony cross of later date. The entire composition is assembled in a carved wooden Louis XV frame with poliment gilding. Total dimensions 76 x 51 cm. Height of the body 33 cm. Slight signs of age. The gilding rubbed. The frame knocked in places. The inscription plate faded.

Elfenbein vollrund geschnitzt. Der Korpus im Dreinageltypus nach dem Giambologna-Modell fein gearbeitet. Die Extremitäten, das Lendentuch samt Kordel sowie die Kopfpartie mit detailliert herausgearbeiteten Haaren und Bart lassen unschwer eine meisterliche Hand aus der Mitte des 18. Jhdts. erkennen. Auf späterem Kreuz in Ebenholz montiert. Die gesamte Komposition in einem aus Holz geschnitzten und polimentvergoldeten Louis XV.-Rahmen installiert. Gesamtmaße 76 x 51 cm. Höhe des Korpus 33 cm. Leichte Altersspuren. Vergoldung berieben. Der Rahmen teilweise bestoßen. Die Inschriftenplatte ausgeblichen.
