Bataillonsarzt Dr. Hans Liebold, Erinnerungs-Fotoalbum, Weihnachten 1941, Kreta, Bericht einer Fallschirmjäger-Kompanie, Südost-Einsatz 1941. Seltenes Fotoalbum, das nur in einer Auflage von 200 Exemplaren an "Kreta"-Kämpfer bzw. deren Hinterbliebene ausgehändigt wurde. Im Album insgesamt 149 interessante Fotos und farbige Darstellungen, überwiegend im Format 12 x 8,5 cm, eingeklebt, teilweise mit gedruckten Text-Beschreibungen. Das Album in Leinen gebunden, der Einband-Deckel mit Abzeichen der Einheit und Bezeichnung "Kreta". Vorsatzblätter mit Gefallenenliste und Vorworten des Bataillonskommandeurs bzw. des Kompaniechefs. Hergestellt bei der Druckerei Illig in Göppingen, nummeriertes Exemplar "172". Großformat, Maße ca. 35,5 x 26 x 5 cm. Gewicht ca. 2,4 kg. Einband fleckig, Seiten und Fotos gut bis sehr gut.
Das Unternehmen "Merkur" war die erste große Luftlandeoperation im 2. Weltkrieg, die von deutschen Fallschirmjägern und Gebirgsjägern zur Einnahme der Insel Kreta durchgeführt wurde. Nach der Einnahme Griechenlands im Verlauf des Balkanfeldzugs 1941 wurde das von alliierten Truppen verteidigte Kreta durch die deutsche Wehrmacht erobert und blieb bis 1945 besetzt. Für die erfolgreiche Luftlandeschlacht wurde das Ärmelband "Kreta" an die beteiligten deutschen Soldaten verliehen. Sehr seltenes Album aus dem Nachlass von Dr. Hans Liebold, Bataillonsarzt, Stabsarzt d.R., 3. Bataillon, Luftwaffenregiment Barenthin/Division von Manteuffel.

Battalion Doctor Dr. Hans Liebold - a souvenir photo album of a Paratrooper Company, "Crete 1941"
This photo album was printed in a limited edition of 200 only, illustrating the operations of a paratrooper company in Crete in 1941. It was exclusively given to participating paratroopers resp. their surviving family members. It contains 149 very interesting photos and several coloured illustrations, mostly 12 x 8,5 cm, glued in, some with caption. Linen cover, on the front the unit insignia and marked "Crete" (transl.). The flyleaf with a death roll and forewords of both battalion and company commander. Printed at "Illig" in Göppingen, this copy numbered "172". Dimensions 35,5 x 26 x 5 cm, weight 2,4 kg. The cover with signs of age, pages and photos in good to very good condition.
"Operation Mercury" was the very first major airborne invasion, not only in WW II, which lead to the occupation of the Greek island of Crete by a large number of paratroopers and mountain troops, who defeated the allied occupation forces. Crete remained under German command until 1945. Participants to the "Battle of Crete" received the "Kreta" cuff title.
