England. Um 1630. Silber. Glattes, originales Übergehäuse mit wohl Ende des 18. bzw. Anfang des 19. Jhs. ergänzter Gravurinschrift "This curious watch / was a present from / CHARLES 2nd to SILVA EVELYN / and from him has descended / through the family of the BISSHOPPS / to the present time. / On the dial it shows: The hour - The day / of the month - The moon's age - And the / moon's phase. The stars as they pass / The meridian Strikes the hours / Works with a cat gut instead of / chain Requires winding up every 12 / hours Is in perfect working order.". Vergoldetes, in feinem vegetabilem Rankenwerk gestaltetes Übergehäuse in Ajour, Innenseite des Vorderdeckels mit zentralem Monogramm "TB" mit von geflügelten Herzen flankiertem Anker. Bodenglocke. Zifferblatt mit römischen Indexen auf silbernem Ziffernring, zwei konzentrischen Kreisen als Anzeige für den Mondmonat sowie zentraler Drehscheibe mit einer Öffnung für die Anzeige der Mondphase und einem Zeiger für das Ablesen des Mondalters. Vergoldetes Vollplatinenwerk mit Ringunruh und floraler Unruhbrücke in Ajour, Stundenschlag mit Hammer und Glocke, Schnecke und Darmsaite. Fachmännisch überarbeitet und restauriert (ausführlicher Restaurierungsbericht beiliegend). Platine sign. Ges.-Gew. ca. 226,55 g. D. 51 mm bzw. 57 mm.
Laut Überlieferung soll diese Taschenuhr ein Geschenk Charles II. an John Evelyn (Wotton 1620 - 1706) gewesen sein. Evelyn, Schriftsteller, Architekt und Gartenbauer, erfreute sich großer Beliebtheit am Hofe. Sein 1664 erschienenes Werk "Sylva" machte erstmals auf die Bedeutung der Aufforstung aufmerksam. Sir Godfrey Kneller schuf ein bekanntes Porträt Evelyns. Seine Enkeltochter Elizabeth Evelyn heiratete Sir Simon Harcourt. Laut der Überlieferung der Familie überreichte Earl of Rosebery 1883 diese Taschenuhr Sir William Harcourt, wodurch die Uhr zurück in die Familie Harcourt gelangte.
Eine annähernd identische Taschenuhr von Thomas Chamberlain befindet sich in der Sammlung des Victoria & Albert Museums in London, Inv.-Nr. 8535-1863.

Silver outer case with inscription. Gilt metal pierced inner case. Silver dial with moon age and phases. A gilt full plate movement with striking hour, fusee with cat gut instead of chain.

After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
