Farben und Gold auf Gewebe, montiert mit Seidenstoffen. Im Zentrum Guru Rinpoche, der Begründer des Buddhismus in Tibet, umgeben von verschiedenen Buddha und buddhistischen Gottheiten. Die beiden oberen Reihen zeigen verschiedene Lama, Mahasiddhas und Buddha, unter ihnen Buddha Amitabha und Buddha Amitayus. Zu seiner rechten und linken Seite befinden sich Buddha Vajrasattva, Vajrayogini, Guru Dragpo und Simhamukha-Dakini sowie seine beiden Gefährtinnen Mandarava und Yeshe Tsogyal. Unterhalb von Padmasambhava sind verschiedene Schutzgottheiten dargestellt, unter anderem der neunköpfige Rahula, einer der drei Hauptschutzgottheiten der Nyingma-Tradition.

Gesicht und Hände von Guru Rinpoche sind durch Gold hervorgehoben. Die ungewöhnliche Goldverzierung als auch die außergewöhnliche Größe des Thangka verdeutlichen die bedeutende Stellung, die Padmasambhava im tibetischen Buddhismus einnimmt und die große Verehrung, die ihm entgegen gebracht wird. 94,5 x 63,5cm, mit Montierung 163 x 93cm.
