First edition, signed by the author on the flyleaf.

Saul Bellow wrote this work about the failed actor, Wilhelm Adler, as his fourth published book. It was his first foray into fiction, and the action takes place in a single day. It was adapted into a film in 1986 with Robin Williams playing the lead.
