Quaderförmige, schwarz gelackte Metalldose mit feiner Ölmalerei in Form einer Stadtansicht mit Personenstaffage und Fluss. Aufklappbar, darin zwei Kompartimente. Das kleinere mit dem Spielwerk. Dieses mit Messingwalze und Stiften sowie doppelreihigen Eisenzähnen. Schlüssel vorhanden. Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren.
Stobwasser ist der Name einer Familie, welche in Braunschweig im Jahr 1763 eine Manufaktur für Lackkunst eröffnete. Der Name wird heute stellvertretend für meist in Braunschweig hergestellte Gegenstände verwendet, die nach der besonderen Stobwasserschen Technik und mit hohem kunsthandwerklichen Anspruch hergestellt wurden. Dabei kann die lackierte Grundlage dieser Gegenstände sowohl Pappmaché, Holz als auch Metall sein. Maße 15,2 x 8,5 x 2,2 cm.

The rectangular, black lacquered metal box with fine oil painting in the form of a city view with figures and a river. Unfolds to reveal two compartments. The smaller housing the musical mechanism. Stobwasser is the name of the family who opened a manufactory for lacquered artefacts in Brunswick in 1763. Today, the name is used to refer to lacquered objects, mostly manufactured in Brunswick, that have been made with excellent craftsmanship by applying the special Stobwasser technique. The lacquered base of these products may be papier-mâché, wood or metal. Dimensions 15.2 x 8.5 x 2.2 cm.
