A Sassanid gilded silver appliqué, 6th century
Large round silver appliqué designed as a three-dimensional big cat's head. Eyes, eyebrows, lips and fangs are gilded. A wreath of cats' backs around the round head. Recessed and later cold-worked silver plate. The edge slightly bumped and torn in places, small missing part above the head. Otherwise intact. Without additions. Diameter 16 cm. Height 5.5 cm. Weight 179 g.

Provenance: From a private collection in Rhineland-Palatinate, form the grandfather.

Ausdrucksstarke Raubkatzenkopf-Applike, sassanidisch, 6. Jhdt.
Große runde Silberapplike, die als plastischer Raubkatzenkopf gestaltet ist. Augen, Augenbrauen, Lippen und Reißzähne sind vergoldet. Rings um den runden Kopf auf dem Randstreifen ein Kranz aus Buckeln. Getriebenes und später kalt nachgearbeitetes Silberblech. Der Rand stellenweise leicht bestoßen und eingerissen, oberhalb des Kopfes kleine Fehlstelle. Sonst intakt. Ohne Ergänzungen. Durchmesser 16 cm. Höhe 5,5 cm. Gewicht 179 g.

Provenienz: Aus rheinland-pfälzischer Privatsammlung, übernommen vom Großvater.
