Die Frauenkirche in Dresden
1916 entstandene, künstlerisch qualitätvolle, annähernd in Original-Größe ausgeführte Kopie nach dem berühmten Gemälde Bellottos von 1751/52 in der Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Staatl. Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Inv.-Nr. Gal.-Nr. 617). Bellotto stellt in einem ungewöhnlichen Blickwinkel auf der linken Bildseite den nur wenige Jahre zuvor vollendeten, 91 m hohen Kuppelbau der Frauenkirche dar, die 1726-1743 durch George Bähr im Auftrag des Rates der Stadt Dresden geschaffen wurde und zu den bedeutendsten Bauwerken des Barock gehört. Zugleich gibt er auf der rechten Bildseite ein authentisches Bild der Stadt und ihrer Architektur wieder, indem er auch die durch Figurenstaffage belebte Straße zeigt. Unter den herausragenden Künstlern, die in der augusteischen Zeit an den kurfürstlichen Hof in Dresden berufen wurden, gehörte auch der venezianische Vedutenmaler Bellotto. Dieser lernte bei seinem Onkel, dem damals schon berühmten Giovanni Antonio Canal gen. Canaletto (1697 - 1768). Dresden, wo sich der 25-jährige Maler Bellotto 1747 niederließ, war damals nicht nur die Hauptstadt des Kurfürstentums Sachsen, sondern in Person des Kurfürsten Friedrich August II. auch Residenz des polnischen Königs (als August III.). Der Kurfürst und König war ein außergewöhnlicher Kunstkenner, der insbesondere eine Vorliebe für zeitgenössische venezianische Malerei pflegte. Bellotto wurde zum Hofmaler mit einem Jahresgehalt von 1750 Talern ernannt und genoss weitere hohe Wertschätzung. In seiner ersten Dresdner Zeit (1747 - 1758) perfektionierte Bellotto seine Malerei, wandte sein gewachsenes Können in der Anfertigung mehrerer Vedutenzyklen in königlichem Auftrag und des Grafen Heinrich von Brühl an. Ein Hauptzyklus von 14 Dresdner Ansichten, der sich noch heute in der Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden befindet, entstand bis 1754. Diese Ansichten von Dresden ermöglichen es dem heutigen Betrachter eine regelrechte Zeitreise in die Mitte des 18. Jhs. zu unternehmen, wobei Bellotto detaillierte Architekturschilderungen der Residenzstadt mit Szenen des Alltags verband. Öl/Lwd.; Verso bez.
