Lot 203 | BERTRAND, Louis, dit Aloysius (1807-1841) et Armand SEGUIN (1869-1903)
Estimate value
€ 3 000 – 4 000
Carteret IV, p.71 ; Mahé I, 244 ; Édition limitée.
One of the 20 deluxe copies on Japan paper, comprising a suite of all the 213 woodcuts on China paper and enriched with 155 original drawings by Armand Seguin for the edition, including 9 unpublished, in a fine art-deco binding by Jacques Anthoine-Legrain. Bertrand's text was an early favourite of the surrealist poets, including André Breton, who described him as a "Surrealist from the past" in the Manifeste du Surréalisme (1924). This book is the sixth published by Ambroise Vollard.
