Öl auf Leinwand. Schulterstück einer jungen Bäuerin vor dunklem Hintergrund. Gekleidet in ein schwarzes Kleid mit lockerem weißen Kragen, schaut sie gedankenvertieft aus dem Bild heraus. Feines Craquelé. Rückseitig auf dem Keilrahmen "W. Leibl" bezeichnet, Leinwand mit einem (schwer leserlichen) Münchener Künstlerbedarf-Stempel. Im vergoldeten Profilrahmen aus Holz mit punziertem Dekor. Bildmaße 46,5 x 37 cm, Maße gerahmt 62,5 x 43 cm.
Wilhelm Leibl (1844 - 1900) war ein bedeutender Vertreter des deutschen Realismus. Er stand in ständigem Austausch mit Gustave Courbet und machte auf einer Reise nach Paris Bekanntschaft mit Manet. Um ihn versammelten sich zahlreiche Maler (Leibl-Kreis), die Anhänger von Leibls Idee des "Reinmalerischen" waren. So äußerte sich Leibl zur Portraitmalerei: "Man male den Menschen so, wie er ist, da ist die Seele ohnehin dabei.".

Oil on canvas. Head-and-shoulder portrait of a young peasant woman against a dark background. Clad in a black dress with loose white collar, she faces the viewer with a thoughtful look. Fine craquelures. The stretcher signed "W. Leibl" on the reverse, the canvas with a (barely legible) stamp of a Munich arts supplier. In a gilt wooden profile frame with punched décor. Dimensions of painting 46.5 x 37 cm, dimensions of frame 62.5 x 43 cm.
Wilhelm Leibl (1844 – 1900) was a significant representative of German Realism. He was in constant exchange with Gustave Courbet and made the acquaintance of Manet on a journey to Paris. Numerous painters gathered around him (Leibl Circle) who were followers of his idea of "pure painting". Leibl’s comment on portrait painting: "I paint human beings as they are, so the soul is there in any case".
