BLESSED BY NICHOLAS II. OF RUSSIA: A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING ST. NICHOLAS THE MIRACLE-WORKER WITH A SILVER-GILT OKLAD Russian, early 20th century (icon), Russian, Moscow, Dmitry Smirnov, 1896-1908 (oklad), dated 1904 Tempera on wood panel with velvet backing. Portrayed en face in half-figure the saint raises his right hand in gesture of blessing while his left covered by the fabric of the omophorion holds an opened gospel book. The figure executed in great detail with elaborate gold ornamentation and perl encrustation. Overlaid with a finely chased and engraved silver-gilt oklad. The border decrorated with scrolling foliage. Marked with assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark 'DS' in Cyrillic. On the reverse applied plaque with Cyrillic dedication inscription: 'Her Majesty's Blessing on the 1904 Campaign to the 2nd East Siberian Telegraph Battalion'. 13.4 x 11 cm.

(Ikone), Russland, Moskau, Dmitri Smirnow, 1896-1908 (Oklad), datiert 1904 Holztafel mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki, verso Samtabdeckung. Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, partielle Vergoldung. 13,4 x 11 cm. Punziert mit Marke der Bezirksbeschauadministration mit Feingehalt '84' und Meisterzeichen 'DS' in Kyrillisch. Der heilige Nikolaus ist halbfigurig im Bischofsornat dargestellt. Seine Rechte hat er im Segensgestus erhoben, in der Linken hält er das aufgeschlagene Evangelienbuch. Sehr feine Malerei mit detailreicher Behandlung des Inkarnates und der Haartracht. Feine Gewandfältelung in Golddispersion mit perlbesetzten Bordüren sowie reich in geometrischen Mustern und feinen Blattranken ornamentiertes Bischofsornat. Der Nimbus und des Basma aus vergoldetem Silber sind mit reliefierten und gravierten Blattranken verziert. Verso gravierte Plakette mit Widmungsinschrift in Kyrillisch: 'Segen Ihrer Majestät zum Feldzug von 1904 dem 2. Ost-Sibirischen Telegraph-Bataillon'.
