Lot 329 | Blümel, Otto
Blümel, Otto - 1881 Augsburg - 1973 Garmisch-Prtenkirchen - Set of 8 chairs, model "Garmisch". Execution: ClassiCon, 1990s.Frame in beech black high gloss lacquer. Seat in beech frame with rubber belts and polyurethane upholstery. Cover in gray fabric.Otto Blümel was an architect of marked artistic inclinations. He designed the "Garmisch" chair during his many years working for the Vereinigte Werkstätten in Munich. With it, he succeeded in creating an unobtrusive work of art of striking timelessness that blends in naturally with a wide variety of environments. One could almost consider "Garmisch" a true representative of the retro style. But "Garmisch" is not a neo-classic, rather a model: a true "classic". In the 1980s, Vereinigte Werkstätten acquired rights to the designs of design greats such as Eileen Gray and expanded the existing collection of furniture by Bruno Pauls, Eckart Muthesius or Walter Gropius to form the "Die Klassiker" line. Then, when the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk had to close for economic reasons, the two collection lines "Classics" and "Contempora" became the basis for the foundation of the company ClassiCon in 1990. - Collection Dr. Jörg Kees (1932 - 2022), Stuttgart.
