Estimate value
€ 400 – 600
Renown counterfeit edition printed in only 300 copies of the 1527 edition of the Decameron published by Giunta, which reached the state of extreme rarity and whose very high demand led to the press of this pirate edition. Pasinello, publisher of this edition, printed it for Stefano Orlandelli at the request of the English consul Joseph Smith, he found the corresponding characters and even managed to reproduce the printer's device, however this is numbered correctly while the 1527 edition has pages 24 , 101 and 168 marked incorrectley (respectively as 42, 101, 168)
.
4to (246 x 175mm). Printer's device on title and at the end, some initials in red pen, additional engraving on first flyleaf with a manuscript note explaining the edition is a counterfeit (lower corner of the title with minimal restoration). Modern binding that reuses an ancient parchment on the spine with title and author on labels; modern case.
